There has been a change of dates for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship qualifying event in Spain, which will be held on September 8th on the driving range at PGA Catalunya Resort, the only qualifying site in Europe. As well as the previously announced Professional, Men’s Amateur and Women’s Amateur categories, the event organisers at PGA Catalunya Resort have added a new Senior category. The winner of the Professional category will gain a place for the October international final in Nevada, as well as a cash prize of €3,000. The runner-up will receive €2,000, and prizes of €1,500 and €500 will be awarded to the players in third and fourth places. The RE/MAX WLDC-PGA Catalunya Resort will be played over a 54x400m field. On the day, contestants will be tested in their respective qualifying groups, with each golfer hitting six drives per entry, with their longest shot determining whether they proceed to the final day’s action. The knock-out rounds then have a ‘double elimination’ format that allows all players at least two opportunities to progress further before final elimination. As a build up for the big day, Gerard Pera, current world number 15 and RE/MAX WLDC European rookie of the year 2011, will be holding a demonstration with members of the press at PGA Catalunya Resort on June 19, 2012, offering tips on how to drive the ball as far as possible to have the best chance of winning on the day. Entry fee per amateur will be €50 and €60 per professional. Prize money for the four first placed pro players will be: €500 for fourth place, €1500 for third, €2000 for second and first place receives – as well as a place in the final in Las Vegas – €3000. Amateur and senior winner prizes will be courtesy of Callaway and will include the latest Callaway RAZR Fit Driver. The RE/MAX WLDC-PGA Catalunya Resort will be held in association with Air Europa, Coca Cola, Confortel Hoteles, Callaway, Caves Mestres, Radio Flaixbac and Vichy Catalan.
