We’re thrilled to announce the inauguration of Camiral Resort’s very own vineyards – Celler Mas Hereu – this year. While it will be a few years before we can produce our first harvest of wines, it still makes a great introduction to local grapes and styles of wine. With the earliest of the ripe grapes being picked towards the end of August, it’s also a perfect time of year to visit local vineyards at their most spectacular as the leaves turn from green, to gold, to fire red, and wine festivals around the region invite guests to sample this year’s new releases. Don’t miss our Wine Tasting sessions at the Hotel Camiral, where you’ll have the opportunity to sip and swirl your way through the region most interesting bottles.

If you fancy spreading your wings and discovering more about Catalan wines September is an exciting month to do it. Packed full of wine lovers events, first up is the Mostra del Vi Empordá (7-10 September) in Figueres. This very local-feeling festival is a prime way to immerse yourself in the art, music and of course, the wine of the region and you’ll find a jam-packed schedule of activities to suit all the family from toy making workshops for kids, to wine-cocktail mixology for grow-ups. See www.mostradelviemporda.cat for a full list of events.

During the famed Festes de la Mercè in Barcelona (mid-late September) the old city is taken over by an extravaganza of Correfocs (fire-breathing dragons and pyrotechnics), gegants (papier mache giants who parade through the streets) and Castellers (human statues that can ready 9-10 bodies high). They’re all part of the general merry-making that makes this one of the most beloved festivals in Spain.

For gourmands, the Wines and Cavas of Catalunya Fair kicks off at the Arc de Triomf during this week too, showcasing the best of the entire region’s offerings paired with some stellar local cheeses and charcuterie. See www.doemporda.cat/en/events/l/144-wines-and-cavas-of-catalonia for a full schedule of events, and be sure to get your tasting tickets well in advance.
