Despite being one of the newest tournaments of the PGA European Tour, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship has quickly grown to become one of the most highly anticipated events on the golfing calendar since its inception in 2006. This year players will be teeing off on the 26th January, and will compete for three days on the world-class Abu Dhabi Golf Course.

The Championship, forming the main part of the European Tour’s Gulf Swing, consistently attracts many of the game’s top international stars, including past winners Chris DiMarco, Paul Casey and Martin Kaymer. Six of the world’s top ten competed in 2011, and all players held 15 Major titles, 340 European Tour wins and 42 Ryder Cup wins between them.

Last year, the championship drew close to 30,000 spectators and this year’s tournament is expected to attract just as many keen golfing fans. Aside from the rare chance to see players of such a high calibre compete, visitors come from around the world to explore the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and its outstanding course.

The 27-hole course weaves through undulating terrain that features pockets of palms, ornamental trees and shrubs, as well as seven spectacular saltwater lakes. The par-72 course is fair but tough, challenging players to bring their A-game. Located just 15 minutes from the city centre and 10 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport, the club is also ideally situated for domestic and international guests.
